The XKR added a supercharged V8 to the XK, delivering a grand tourer that combined Jaguar's traditional luxury with serious sporting performance.
The XKR arrived in 1998 as the high-performance version of the XK8, the grand tourer with which Jaguar had replaced the long-running XJS family a year earlier. While the XK8 used a naturally aspirated V8, the XKR added a supercharger that pushed output to around 370 horsepower, giving the car a far more sporting character without giving up the comfort and luxury finish the British marque was known for. Over the following years, Jaguar kept the XKR badge for the top-performance variant of each successive grand tourer generation, including the model that arrived in 2006 with an all-aluminium body.
The car gained international attention when it appeared in the James Bond film "Die Another Day" (2002), where a Jaguar XKR faced off against agent 007's Aston Martin, driven by the villain Zao, in one of the series' most memorable chase scenes. That appearance helped cement the XKR's image as a British grand tourer with genuine sporting credentials, in the same territory as the Aston Martins it has historically competed against.
